Havang

Havang is where the Verkean river comes down to the Baltic through a valley of sandy grazed meadow, and the combination of grazing, sand and warmth gives it an unusual flora and a long insect list. Havangsdosen, a Neolithic dolmen of five uprights and a capstone dated to around 3500 BC, stands in the open meadow near the shore with nothing built around it. Offshore, under the water, a drowned forest and Stone Age settlement traces have been found - the coastline here was much further out when the dolmen was raised. Paths run inland along the river through the Verkean valley reserve and along the shore in both directions.

Things to know

The dolmen is small and unmarked by anything built. Cattle graze the meadows. There is no shelter or facilities beyond a car park. Summer weekends bring numbers to the beach.
