Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

Kosgoda beach is a significant nesting site, particularly for green turtles, and several hatcheries operate along this stretch, buying eggs from collectors who would otherwise sell them for food, reburying them in protected sand and releasing the hatchlings. The approach is contested: conservation biologists point out that hatchlings held in tanks for days lose the imprinting and the energy they need, and that buying eggs sustains a market. Practice varies sharply between operations.

Buying eggs sustains the collection market. Asking how long hatchlings are held and refusing places that let visitors handle them is the minimum.
