Cerro Punta sits in a bowl at around two thousand metres on the northern flank of Volcán Barú, and the valley floor and the slopes around it are terraced with vegetable fields and flower nurseries, worked intensively enough that a large share of the country's produce comes from here. The air is cold at night. Horse breeding farms occupy the valley too, and the entrance to La Amistad at Las Nubes is a short drive above the town.

What you actually see

  • The terraced fields - vegetable and flower cultivation across the valley and slopes.
  • The altitude - a working farming town at around two thousand metres.
  • The horse farms - the breeding operations in the valley bottom.
  • The park access - the Las Nubes entrance to La Amistad above the town.

When to go

December to April is drier and clearest. Nights are cold at this altitude in any season. Mist rolls into the valley most afternoons.

Honest expectations

This is a working farming town rather than a resort and facilities are basic. Cloud and drizzle are frequent. The road up from Volcán is steep and slow.

Nearby

Finca Drácula is at Guadalupe above, and Volcán is below.
