- Respect allemannsretten, the right to roam - camp, hike and forage where rules allow, and leave no trace
- Take off shoes in homes
- Greet hikers on trails, strangers in cities less so
- Buy alcohol at Vinmonopolet before Saturday evening - it closes and Sunday is dry
✗ Better avoided
- Tip beyond rounding up - staff are properly paid
- Expect small talk with strangers - silence is comfortable here
- Buy bottled water
- Underestimate distances - Norway is far longer than it looks
Worth knowing
- Cards are universal; many places are cash-free entirely
- Supermarket picnics and hotel breakfasts are the standard budget strategy
- Ferries are part of the road network and take cards automatically
- Sunday shopping is essentially nonexistent outside tourist zones
