- Bargain in souks as sport - smiling persistence, walk-away power
- Dress modestly - loose and covered travels best, especially for women
- Learn Shukran and La shukran - thanks and no thanks, both essential
✗ Better avoided
- Follow unofficial guides who attach themselves - a firm La shukran and keep walking
- Photograph people without permission - especially in the souks
- Drink alcohol publicly - it exists but discreetly
- Drink tap water - bottled is standard
Worth knowing
- Cash for souks and taxis; cards in riads and restaurants
- Tipping small amounts often - a few dirhams for services
- Petit taxis are metered by law - insist or agree first
- Trains are good between the big cities; CTM buses are the reliable coach line
