Abderrahman Slaoui Museum

Abderrahman Slaoui was a Casablanca businessman who collected across several categories for most of the twentieth century, and his house on the Rue du Parc - an art deco townhouse of the 1940s - was opened as a museum after his death in 2001. It is small, four floors, and its interest is the specificity of one person's taste rather than any attempt at coverage. The strengths are Amazigh silver jewellery from across the country, the largest of the collections and properly documented by region; orientalist travel posters and advertising from the 1920s and 1930s, which are a good deal more interesting than they sound as a record of how Morocco was sold to Europe; Bohemian crystal; ceramics; and paintings including work by Majorelle. There is a rooftop cafe. It takes an hour, it is central, and it is one of the more likeable small museums in Morocco.
