Naifaru

Naifaru is the administrative centre of Lhaviyani Atoll and one of the more densely settled islands in the country, historically known for dhivehi beys, the Maldivian traditional medicine practised with local plants, and for the skill of its craftsmen. A marine conservation organisation runs a turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre on the island, taking in animals injured by ghost nets and boat strikes and releasing them when they recover. The island sits at the northwestern corner of its atoll, and boats from it work reefs that are far less dived than those closer to the capital.
