Sekinchan

Sekinchan sits on the Selangor coast in the middle of one of the most productive rice areas in the country, and the reason it became a weekend destination is simple visual arithmetic: several thousand hectares of flat paddy that shift from flooded mirror to deep green to gold over each cycle, with two harvests a year and a short window when the fields are at their best. There is a paddy gallery and processing factory explaining the crop, a fishing village and jetty on the coast, seafood restaurants, and a wishing tree hung with red ribbons at a temple by the beach. The timing is everything - arrive between cycles and you are looking at brown mud - and the local tourism office publishes rough harvest windows, generally around May and November.

History

Between cycles the fields are bare mud and there is very little to see - check the harvest timing. Weekends are heavily crowded with cars. It is two hours from Kuala Lumpur each way.
