Sekayu Waterfall

Sekayu is a forest recreation park in the hills west of Kuala Terengganu, built around a stream that comes down in seven tiers with a pool at each, joined by concrete steps and trails so that the higher you climb the fewer people are with you. The lower area is a family park with picnic huts, changing rooms, a deer enclosure, an aviary and a small orchard of local fruit trees, which makes it a day-out destination for people from Kuala Terengganu rather than a wilderness. The forest above is genuinely good lowland dipterocarp, and the walk to the top tier takes about forty minutes of steady climbing. The stream drains a substantial catchment, so levels rise fast after rain and the park closes during the monsoon.

Honest expectations

Levels rise fast after rain and the park closes for it. The lower tiers are crowded at weekends. Steps are slippery. The animal enclosures are modest and not the reason to come.
