Larochette castle sits on a sandstone crag about a hundred and fifty metres above the town, a site occupied from the eleventh century that grew into a complex holding several separate family residences inside one enclosure. It burned in the sixteenth century and was left, and of the houses two survive in part, the Homburg and the Créhange, the latter restored. The rock the castle stands on is the same sandstone that shapes the Mullerthal below.

When to go
April to October is the main season; winter opening is limited. The climb up is short but steep. Autumn colour in the valley is good.
Honest expectations
Much of the site is ruin with limited interpretation. Opening hours are seasonal and restricted. The town below is small with few facilities.
