Tinginys

Tinginys means the lazy one, and the name is a fair description of the method: butter, cocoa and condensed milk are warmed together into a thick chocolate mixture, plain biscuits are broken into it by hand, the whole mass is rolled in paper into a log and put in the fridge until it sets, and that is the entire recipe. No oven is involved. Sliced, the biscuit pieces show as pale flecks against the dark chocolate, which is why it is often compared to salami and sometimes called that. It appeared in Soviet-era home cooking across the region under various names and became a fixture of Lithuanian birthdays, name days and Christmas tables, the thing children are taught to make first. Shop versions exist but the homemade one is the point.
