Zuwara Beaches

The coast around Zuwara in Libya's northwestern corner runs in long sand beaches with clear shallow water, and the town behind them is one of the main Amazigh settlements on the Libyan coast, where the language is spoken alongside Arabic. The beaches are used heavily by Libyans in summer and there is little development along them. Farwa Island lies offshore to the west and fishing is the district's other business. The coast here runs almost straight for tens of kilometres, with the beaches broken only by the occasional rocky point and the harbour at the town itself.

When to go

April to June and September to October are the comfortable months. Summer brings heat and Libyan holiday crowds. Winter storms hit this coast.

Honest expectations

Facilities along the beaches are minimal. Local dress norms apply on public beaches. Travel in Libya requires arrangements through a licensed operator.
