Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge

The Situ Gunung bridge opened in 2019 in the Gede Pangrango national park above Sukabumi, a suspension footbridge two hundred and forty-three metres long and over a hundred metres above the ravine floor, built of steel cable with a timber deck and claimed as the longest suspension footbridge in Southeast Asia - a claim that depends on category and has been contested by longer structures elsewhere. It is crossed in controlled groups with harnesses provided, and on the far side paths lead to the Curug Sawer waterfall and back round through the forest. The Situ Gunung lake, a small body of water in the same valley, and a camping ground are part of the same site. The bridge is what brings the numbers, and the queues on weekends can be long.

What to expect

Weekend queues for the crossing are long and groups are held. The bridge moves and closes in high wind or storms. The longest-in-Asia claim is category-dependent and disputed.
