Glanni

Glanni is a wide fall on the Nordura where the river drops over the edge of an old lava flow, more a set of parallel chutes than a single curtain, and it is one of the better known salmon pools in western Iceland - fish can be watched trying the fall in summer. Local folklore held the rocks around it to be a dwelling of the hidden people, which is the sort of story attached to many awkward or dangerous spots in the Icelandic landscape. A viewing platform stands above it, reached in a few minutes from the car park by the Glanni golf course, and the path continues to the Paradisarlaut hollow nearby.

Good to know

The fall is low and wide, so it does not photograph as dramatic. Fishing rights here are private and expensive. The car park is shared with a golf course. Facilities are seasonal.
