GeoSea Baths

GeoSea opened in 2018 on the cliff at Husavik, and what fills the pools is not fresh geothermal water but sea water that has been heated underground: boreholes drilled near the shore years earlier brought up hot saline water that was too mineral-rich for a district heating system, and the baths were eventually built to use it. The result is warm salt water in stepped infinity pools looking north over Skjalfandi bay, where the whale watching boats work, towards the mountains of the Kinnarfjoll and, on a clear day, the Arctic Circle island of Grimsey somewhere out beyond.

Year round; the northern lights season adds to it. Two to three hours.

Before you go

The salt water is not to everyone's taste and it dries the skin. Prices are at the level of the other new Icelandic baths. It is exposed on the cliff, so getting in and out in wind is bracing. It fills after the afternoon whale boats come back.
