Aappilattoq

Aappilattoq sits at the western entrance to Prins Christian Sund, a settlement of fewer than a hundred people on a shelf below a mountain whose red rock gives the place its name, hemmed in so completely by peaks that there is nowhere for it to expand. There is no road anywhere. The community lives by hunting and fishing, the coastal ferry calls on its route through the sound, and the setting is as dramatic as anywhere in Greenland.

When to go

There is essentially nothing for visitors: no hotel, no restaurant, no shop worth the name. The ferry stop is brief. This is a working community and not a destination.
