Boti Falls

Boti Falls drops about thirty metres into a gorge in the Eastern Region, and it is called twin because in high water two streams come over the lip side by side, described locally as male and female; in the dry season one or both can reduce to very little. Around 250 steps lead down to the pool from the visitor area. From the falls a walk of forty minutes or so through farmland and forest reaches the Umbrella Rock, a broad slab balanced on a narrow pedestal that visitors climb and shelter under, and a palm tree with three trunks from one root that has become part of the same circuit. Swimming at the falls is sometimes permitted depending on conditions.

When to go

June to October in the rains for the strongest flow and the twin effect, which often disappears by February or March. The dry season gives easier walking to Umbrella Rock. Weekends are busy with local visitors.

Good to know

Flow can be very weak late in the dry season, when the twin falls become one thin stream. The steps down are steep and the climb back hard in the heat. The walk to Umbrella Rock is longer and rougher than expected. Facilities are basic.
