Bad Münstereifel

The town keeps a complete medieval wall circuit with four gates and towers, an eleventh-century Romanesque collegiate church and timber-framed houses along the Erft. From 2014 an unusual scheme filled empty shops in the historic centre with outlet stores under a single operator, keeping the facades but changing the town's function; the model has been debated as a model for reviving small towns and criticised for what it does to their character. A Roman aqueduct that carried water to Cologne passes nearby with visible sections. In July 2021 the Erft flooded the centre severely, and rebuilding followed.

The centre is dominated by outlet retail, which divides opinion sharply. Flood recovery has been uneven. Weekend crowds are shopping crowds.
