Tendaba is a village on the south bank with a camp beside it that has been the base for upriver trips since the 1970s, sitting between Kiang West on one side and the Bao Bolong creeks on the other, so both are reachable in a day. Rooms are simple round huts, the river runs past the terrace and the boats leave from the jetty below. It is where most Gambian wildlife itineraries stop.

What you actually see

  • The river terrace - the camp frontage looking out over the water.
  • The jetty - where the creek and park excursions leave from.
  • The round huts - the simple accommodation the camp is built of.
  • The position - Kiang West on one bank and Bao Bolong on the other.

When to go

November to February is the cool dry season and the main window. The camp is quiet in the rains from June to October. Excursions run in the early morning.

Honest expectations

Accommodation is basic with intermittent power and simple food. The road out from the coast takes around three hours. Everything runs through the camp, so flexibility is limited.

Nearby

Kiang West is beside it, and Bao Bolong is across the river.
