Gamba and Ndogo Lagoon
An oil town beside the country's largest lagoon, in the southwestern wildlife complex.

Gamba grew up around onshore oil production in the southwest and sits beside the Ndogo lagoon, the largest in Gabon, a body of brackish water some sixty kilometres long connected to the sea and fringed by forest and papyrus. The lagoon is worked for tarpon fishing, which draws anglers from a long way, and it is surrounded by the protected areas that make up the Gamba complex, with Loango to the north.

When to go
May to September is the long dry season. Tarpon fishing peaks between October and March. Flights are limited and book out.
Things to know
The town itself is an oil company settlement with little for visitors. Access is by air and expensive. Everything onward from Gamba requires boats and arrangement.
