Haldarsvik

Haldarsvík has the only octagonal church in the Faroes, built in 1856 of local stone rather than the usual timber, standing above the village on the slope. Its altarpiece is a Last Supper in which the apostles are given the faces of living Faroese public figures. A small waterfall drops through the middle of the village. The village sits on the Sundini with Eysturoy across the water, and the road along that sound is one of the easier drives in the islands.

May to September is when the church is most likely open. Services take precedence. The waterfall runs strongest after rain.

The church is often locked outside service times. The village is very small with minimal facilities. Parking on the narrow road is awkward.
