El Valle lies on the Atlantic side of the Samaná peninsula, reached by a steep road that climbs over the ridge from Samaná town and drops into a valley, and the beach at the bottom is a curve of grey-gold sand between headlands with a river coming out at one end and surf breaking along it. A handful of restaurants operate on the sand. Horses graze on the beach. Almost nothing has been built here.

What you actually see

  • The enclosed bay - sand between headlands on the Atlantic side of the peninsula.
  • The mountain road - the steep climb and descent from Samaná town.
  • The river mouth - fresh water reaching the sea at one end of the beach.
  • The horses - the animals grazing loose along the shore.

When to go

December to April is the drier season and calmest. Atlantic swell can be heavy in winter. The road is difficult after rain.

Honest expectations

The road over the ridge is steep, narrow and rough in places. Currents on this Atlantic beach are strong and there are no lifeguards. Facilities are a few beach restaurants.

Nearby

Boca del Diablo is east, and Samaná town is south.
