Dreznik Castle

Dreznik Grad sits on a limestone spur above a bend of the Korana, recorded from the thirteenth century and held by the Frankopans, then taken by the Ottomans in the sixteenth century and held for over a hundred and fifty years, then retaken and garrisoned by Austria as part of the military frontier before being left to fall. What stands is walls, a tower and gate on the rock, unroofed and open, with the river below. The area was on the front line in the 1990s and the villages around show it. It sits on the road to Plitvice and takes a short detour.

April to October. Two hours.

Honest expectations

There is no interpretation on site and the ruin is unfenced above drops. The path up is rough. This area saw fighting in the 1990s and some ground off the marked routes has never been formally cleared - staying on paths matters here.
