Mitsamiouli is the largest town in the north of Grande Comore, a working settlement with a market, an old mosque and a stretch of coast around it that holds the island's best beaches and reef. It is the base for the northern sites: Trou du Prophete, Maloudja and the diving off the point. The town itself is ordinary, and the reason to be there is what lies within a few kilometres.

What you actually see

  • The market - the trading centre for the northern part of the island.
  • The old mosque - the historic building at the centre of town.
  • The northern coast - the beaches and reef within a few kilometres.
  • The base function - where trips to the northern sites start.

When to go

May to October is the drier and cooler season. The rains run November to April with cyclone risk. Market days bring the town to life.

Honest expectations

The town has little for a visitor in itself and works as a base. Facilities are limited. The road from Moroni is slow despite the distance.

Nearby

Trou du Prophete is east, and Maloudja is west.
