Dos du Dragon

The Dos du Dragon is a spine of black basalt running down into the sea on Grande Comore's northern coast, an old lava flow that cooled into a ridge with a jagged crest, which is where the dragon's back name comes from. The sea breaks over the rocks at the seaward end. It is one of the clearest places on the island to see how Karthala's flows reached the coast.

When to go

May to October is the drier and cooler season. Low tide exposes more of the rock. The formation is there year round.

Things to know

The rock is sharp basalt and shoes are necessary. There is no path and no signage. It takes an hour and there is nothing else at the site.
