Pueblito Paisa

Cerro Nutibara is a hill of about eighty metres standing in the middle of the Medellin valley, and in 1978 a scaled replica of a traditional Antioquian village was built on top: a small square with a church, a barber, a schoolhouse, a town hall and houses with the whitewash, timber balconies and painted doors of the region's pueblos. It is a reproduction and does not pretend otherwise. What makes it worth the climb is the position - a full circle view over Medellin filling its narrow valley, with the barrios climbing the slopes on both sides, which explains the city's shape better than any map. A sculpture park on the hillside holds works from the 1980s biennials. Craft stalls and a restaurant operate on the summit.

Honest expectations

It is a 1978 replica, not a historic village. The summit is small and busy at weekends. The walk up is steep - most people take a taxi. Stalls are aimed squarely at visitors.
