Getting thereBritish Columbia; bus or road from North Vancouver, about 20 km from downtown
EntryFree; kayak hire and parking charged

Deep Cove sits at the head of Indian Arm, a steep-sided fjord running north from Burrard Inlet, and the sheltered water at the village makes it one of the easiest places near Vancouver to get into a kayak; hire operators run from the beach and paddlers head up the arm past waterfalls and cabins reachable only by boat. The Quarry Rock hike climbs about three point eight kilometres return through forest to a bare granite ledge looking down the arm, popular enough that the trail has needed repair and closures. The village has one street of cafes, and a doughnut shop that draws queues out of proportion to the place.

What you actually see

  • The fjord head - sheltered water at the bottom of Indian Arm.
  • Quarry Rock - a granite ledge above the arm at the end of a short climb.
  • The kayak fleet - hire boats heading up the inlet from the beach.
  • The village street - a short row of cafes and the well-known doughnut shop.

When to go

May to September for paddling and the hike; the trail is muddy and slippery the rest of the year. Parking is severely limited and fills by mid-morning on any fine weekend.

Honest expectations

Parking is the main problem, with residential restrictions and heavy enforcement; the bus is easier. The Quarry Rock trail has been closed for repair in some seasons. Doughnut queues can run an hour.

Nearby

Lynn Canyon lies west; Grouse Mountain is northwest.
