Keokradong stands above Boga Lake in Bandarban district and carries a summit marker giving its height as 3,172 feet and calling it the highest point in Bangladesh, which is what generations of Bangladeshi trekkers have been told. Later surveying put it nearer 2,800 feet and identified higher summits nearby, Saka Haphong and Zow Tlang among them, so the marker is wrong and the claim has quietly shifted; the hill remains the standard trekking objective because it is the accessible one with a route and a shelter. The walk up from Boga Lake takes a few hours through Bawm villages and bamboo, with the ridge opening out near the top and the hills of the Indian and Myanmar borders visible.

What you actually see

  • The summit marker and its wrong height - the claim that stood for decades.
  • The ridge walk from Boga Lake - a few hours through bamboo and villages.
  • Bawm villages on the route - the settlements the path passes.
  • Border hills from the top - the ranges east and south.

When to go

November to March. Two to three days including Boga Lake. Guides and permits are arranged in Bandarban and Ruma. The walk is not technical but it is hot and steep in places.

Honest expectations

It is not the highest point in the country despite the marker, and the higher summits are harder to reach and more restricted. Permits for foreigners are difficult and often refused. Accommodation is basic. There is no rescue.

Nearby

Boga Lake is below; Ruma and Bandarban lie south.
