Gregory Town

Gregory Town sits on a hillside above a small harbour in northern Eleuthera and built its name on pineapples: the island's fruit was famous in the nineteenth century and the town still holds a Pineapple Festival every June. The other reason people come is Surfer's Beach, a couple of kilometres south, where an Atlantic reef break has drawn surfers since the 1960s and works best on winter swell. The village is steep, small and painted in the usual island colours.

When to go

November to April is the dry season and the surf season, when the north Atlantic swell arrives. The Pineapple Festival is in June. Summer is flat and hot.

Before you go

The track down to Surfer's Beach is rough and ordinary cars struggle. The pineapple industry is largely gone and the festival is the main survival of it. The village has limited food options.
