Alega is a short curve of sand on Tutuila's eastern coast, backed by trees with a reef flat in front of it, held by a family who charge a small fee and keep a bar and a few fales on the beach. It is one of the pleasanter and easier places to swim on an island where most of the coast is lava rock. The water inside the reef is shallow and calm at high tide and largely dries at low.

When to go
May to September is the drier season. Higher tides are needed for swimming. Sundays are strictly observed.
Honest expectations
The reef flat largely dries at low tide, which limits swimming to part of the day. The beach is small and fills at weekends. Facilities are minimal.
