Borsh runs for about seven kilometres along the southern Riviera, which makes it the longest beach on this coast and the one where it is still possible to walk away from everybody in July, since the development is concentrated at the northern end and much of the length is empty shingle. Behind it rises a slope covered in what is said to be one of the larger olive groves in the region, with the old village of Borsh above and the ruins of Borshi castle on a spur. A cold spring emerges near the beach and runs into the sea, and a stream comes down the hillside with a small waterfall. The water is clear but the shingle is coarse and the shelf is steep in places.

What you actually see

  • Seven kilometres of shingle - the longest beach on the Riviera.
  • A large olive grove behind - the slope planted above the shore.
  • Borshi castle ruins - the fort on a spur above the village.
  • A cold spring and stream - fresh water running to the beach.

When to go

June to September. A day, or as a base for the southern Riviera. The northern end has the facilities and the crowds; walking south finds space even in August. Most businesses close by October.

Honest expectations

The shingle is coarse and hard on feet. The shelf drops sharply in places and there are no lifeguards. Development at the northern end is unregulated concrete. There is very little shade along the length. Springs make the water cold in patches.

Nearby

Himara is north; Saranda lies south.
